 Topic: Removing Rear Rim On A D17?

I had a flat on my d17. Come to find out the rim is shot beyond repair. It is a 4 lug power adjust rim. How do I get that rim off? Those 4 bolts do not come out do they? I got them to turn a quarter turn to get the dogs behind the bolt head loose. I need to remove the one stop on the one rail yet. I am at a loss as to how to get the rim off. Thanks

Remove the 2 bolts each that hold the eccentric castings on. Might get by removing just 2 next to each other and rocking the rim off.

take the 8 lug bolts off would take the hole wheel off' will work better' an go back on better

Aaron. It looks to me that the 4 castings that go around the rails are part of the hub and don't come off I do not see the two bolts you are referring to.. I will look again in the daylight. Thanks

Take complete wheel off.Lay on floor and take 8 bolts out that holds lugs.Drive center out wit sledge hammer .It will go back better when clean and painted .That worked on a D/14.

Should be the same center as my 180, took off the top two eccentric wedges and rolled the rim off without the tire. Bought my replacement rim from Hayspear SW MO.

Series III D17s and newer tractors use these eccentrics. Remove the bolt completely and the rim will separate from the center.  D17s prior to Series III (and WD/45) use eccentrics which have 1 adjusting bolt and 2 mounting bolts. Remove the 2 bolts to separate the rim from the wheel center. IF these bolts have never been removed, it is best to unbolt the wheel from the hub, remove the eccentric bolts, lay the wheel on the ground and drop a heavy piece of lumber on the center (repeatedly) to jar everything loose.

It is a late model IV. My tire guy who took the tire off for me said I did not need to take the wheel weight off. No way that I can see. I am going to try to get the weight off today. Then I think it will look like the last pic of WD45 above. Hopefully it will come off like Aaron and DMiller said above. I will let you know. I got a new rim coming tomorrow.

If it is a late Series IV, it will look like my first picture (or should if someone did not change them in the last 50 years). Both of my D17s are later Series IV - 1967. You will see when you remove the weight.

I dropped off the weight and it has the two mounting bolts to the wheel and the one adjusting bolt. I got the adjusting bolts freed up and removed all 8 mounting bolts. I had to take a crowbar and pry one of the clamps off, which took a lot of effort, then the rim came off. The new one comes today. I am guessing that I will need to mount three of them on them on the wheel, put the rim on and try to pry the fourth one back in. Seems like a poor design unless I am still missing something. Thanks for the help. I may be back for ideas on mounting the new one.
