Hello all - Proud new owner of a very nice (not new) HD6G.
Right steering clutch is inoperative. Pulling back on the right lever has much more resistance than the left. The right clutch does not disengage. Brakes work fine. no slippage Is there anything to attempt before pulling off the seats and tanks? Any potential cleaning possible, or 'prybaring' to try to get the clutch to compress vs pulling the clutch out? I'm afraid to really pull on that lever. Also, same side rear roller seal is leaking. How much fun is that to replace? For now, i can keep it full and park her on a rail road tie. |

Always start by making sure the linkage is free. Then check the adjustment, making sure you are pulling the lever far enough to release the clutch.
But very common for the plates in the steering clutches to rust together when they sit to long. Many people claim to get them working again by placing the bucket against something solid and pulling the lever and letting it sit and spine the track. I have never had success doing this, but it is easy compared to removing the steering clutch. The roller will last a long time yet if you keep grease in it. I have some Cat brand rollers that are considered lubed for life. Cat used a very thin fluid (looks like ATF ). I filled a leaking one with grease and got a lot of years out of it.

It's not so difficult to pull the tank and covers off and look in there. That way you can see if the throw out bearing is moving with the lever. I had to remove one of mine (s clutch) and submerge it in muriatic acid for 3 days.

Congrats on the HD6G! For the clutch, check for debris or lubricate the lever before removing seats. If it’s still stuck, you may need to dig in further.
