Ok guys...been working on this deal for 2 years. HD11G ser # 2589...would be a year model of 1956 2nd year of production. Pretty much a perfect specimen by our standards for it's age. It came from Dayton, Nv. (Carson City area). The previous owner there had brought it from Ca. some years ago...and just never got around to using it the way he wanted to. After our original discussion we told him we would like to have it but were not sure how soon we could make it happen...you know all the things that complicate life..a day job...distance to haul it...oh and fires here on a regular basis!. So this last Memorial Day weekend....6 months ago we traveled to Reno,Nv. for a grandsons basketball tournament...I found some time to contact him and go do a visual. He was out of town but I was able to get in and see it. So it has taken this long to have enough time to put together transportation issues. ![]() So again we enlisted the help of Dennis McFarland...McFarland Trucking Inc. Calpella Ca. He was watching the weather and decided to go last Thursday and Friday do to incoming snow to the sierras. The route from here goes over interstate 80 thru Donner summit....it was a good choice...the highway has been closed several times in the last several days..with the rest of week looking snowy too. ![]() So...L to R Mel Ford, Dennis McFarland, Dave For ![]() [TUBE]IM9HbRMnRZY[/TUBE] The undercarriage is like new...we have never found a place to get new grousers for these machines. The intermediate pinion caps have worked loose and have been tampered with...that's probably the worst thing going on here. ![]() Operators compartment is about like new ![]() Are current plan is to use some parts of a donor tractor. [TUBE]vZd9H2WjhH4[/TUBE] We have had this HD11G for 10 years or longer..but it needed to much work to be restored from scratch. ![]() This canopy is manufactured by Medford Iron Works and has a spec. plate for an HD11G. It and the tank guard will fit just fine on the other one. ![]() These forks were available through AC when the tractor was new. The quick change fork with bucket set up is typical for loggers in there day. ![]() This conversion to different battery boxes for access was another popular thing among owners...we don't plan on cutting up the new one yet. ![]() So we are going to try to get the canopy and forks on this by the 3rd week in march for the antique equipment dispaly at the Redwood Region Logging Conference in Eureka, Ca. NO RESTORATION PAINT!!! we're going to use it for fun!! Maybe load some logs this summer....at least a photo op. ![]() We'll post some more when we get started. |

Mel, Mel, Mel! I try and try to tell you that the words "happiness" and "cows" do NOT go together in the same sentence! Unless of course, if you ask my wife. She might agree with your silly sign. But she is a "fair weather" cattle woman. When it's 20 below with a 30 MPH wind, she's not out there taking care of them. However, she does say that for not liking cows, I sure take damn good care of them. Darrel

darrel, darral. darrel you kind of answered the question
California Cows are happier than ND cows. I would probably sell the cows if I had to go out in that below 0 ugly white stuff somebody calls "pretty" to feed them too. But the other day it started at 20+ and got all the way to high 40's with a cold wind, and I was suffering enough.Anyway that looks like a really good find you got there Mel.

Handled that bucket of gravel just fine. No tippy toe without counter-weight or drum on the machine. Like you said those street pads look like they just came off the shelf. Great addition. Would really like to see your collection.
