I always heard these called "Russian Hornets"

One of these stung Lora Alley right between the eyes; and, for a while, it looked like he was going to grow a third horn.

The European Hornet (Vespa crabro) is the largest eusocial wasp native to Europe. It is also the only true hornet (genus Vespa) found in North America, having been introduced to the United States and Canada from Europe as early as 1840.

 Some years back, I was on roof of In/laws house in North Dakota trying to free up a stuck TV antenna when a "Hornet" hit me on my back, we had not noticed the nest. I turned around and her brother was already jumping off the roof hollaring,,,"JUMP HORNETS!!!" ,,,SO, I followed him off the roof,,,,
 The dang sting festered and after it developed a dime sized cavity about1/4" deep,,they took me to ER for treatment,,,Chit,,that hurt like crazy,,,
  BUT,,,,but,,,that night I climbed the roof again with a coffee can full of High test Ethyl Supreme and doused them good,,,,no more hornets!!!

That old time Gasoline would put the fix on Wasps, Hornets, and such; this modern stuff ain't much better than plain water.

Real, old time, Ether/Starting Fluid, if you can find the good stuff, will put the fix on them as well; but, it is getting harder and harder to find and is very hard to tell whether it is still the good stuff until you try to start something with it and it does nothing.

That's some decision to make, jump off the roof or get stung by hornets?????
Evidently the roof wasn't all that high?? Lol!
