So I just traded my WD-45,  *ugh* don't ask me why, but I kept the snap coupler plow. 2 bottom roll over in pretty good shape.  My dad has a WD so I thought no big loss,  I can just borrow his WD.  The problem,  his WD has no snap coupler bell.  It has 2 plates hanging down where the snap coupler would be but you would need to rotate the coupler to get a pin in it. Looks like  the bars were verticle and a bolt went through horizontally.

The question did the snap coupler replace this setup? It has the drawbar support hanging down also, but no clear way that a drawbar can hookup.  Buy a snap coupler bell on eBay?

the snap coupler bell should bolt right up to where the pin hitch bolts to now...

I figured that, but was wondering was this a transition or OEM option.  Maybe it was pin hitch before then snap coupler? Then everyone had to retrofit their WD to use the new snap coupler?  Then you have the ain in the butt bolting and unbolting a snap coupler because half of your old stuff uses the pin style?

I believe all WD's came from the factory with Pin Hitch.

The Snap Coupler System ( the Bell under the differential and the two Lift arm Latches ) first came on the WD-45 when it was introduced in 1953.

The system can easily be added to a WD.

I have a 1951 WD. Serial number: 104589 which makes it one of the late ones. It came with factory snap coupler. It sure was an improvement over those WD's that didn't have SC. Hope that helps.

Dad converted his WD to snap coupler in late 60's when he got a  SC plow.

Not really,........however, the snap coupler and lift arm latches are easily installed as a replacement for the pin hitch allowing for the use of snap-coupler implements on the earlier tractors.

I have a '51 WD and a '56 WD-45. 
When I acquired a snap-coupler back blade, I switched the snap-coupler from the WD-45 to the WD as I wanted to use the back blade on the WD. 
I use the WD-45 only with a sickle bar mower and didn't need it there.

The snap-coupler became standard equipment on the WD-45 in 1954 with serial #151381 but it may have been available as an option in late 1953 when the  WD-45 was originally introduced.

However, many WDs were retrofitted with the snap-coupler as the task of hitching and unhitching was simplified immensely.

The snap-couplers and lift arm latches come up on e-bay regularly although I have noticed that the latches have become a bit pricey.

We bought a new '53 WD, dealer used it for a demonstrator, it had a snap coupler, but I think the dealer put it on before we got it.

I bought used arm latches from Sandy Lake on this website. Cheaper than e-bay. They may have the bells and coupling for snap coubler also.
