The spec sheest says to use 11x28 rear tires. What is on the tractor is 13x28 and the new tires I bought are 13.,something x 28. Now I see I need new rims and am seeing everythig from 9" to 12" wide. Should I go with the 12" wide or keep looking?
thanx, dan |

An 11 x 28 tire is the same size as a newer 12.4 x 28. This is the OLD numbering system (pre 1958) and the new numbering system with a decimal point (1958 and newer). A 12 x 28 tire is the same size as a newer 13.6 x 28. A 13 x 28 tire is the same as the newer 14.9 x 28. I would use an 11 inch wide or 12 inch wide rim for any of these tire sizes.

I would go with 12" wide. 13" rims are for 14.9 tires. So I"d think a 12" rim would be good for 13.x tires.

Allis used 12 inch rims on the WD-45 tractors, of which many had the optional 13 x 28/ 14.9 x 28 rubber on them from the factory. Allis also used 13 inch rims on thousands of D-17 tractors which had 14.9 x 28 as the standard tire and 16.9 x 28 as the option and used 13 inch rims on both sizes. I know tire size charts say this is wrong, but that's what they did.

Thanx Everyone. Between here and too much time on a computer, 12" is by far the right way to go with the new 13" tire. Appreciate the help...

For sure don't use 11 inch rims with 14.9's. They suck in too much. Work yes but looks bad. Dad went to 14.9's on the WD he bought new after originals played out. When he needed the current set I rounded up some 12 inch WD45 rims. Much better.
