That is scary. Hopefully he got bit while in another county as the closest to you, and not in his backyard.

It is a bit scary. Most people who contract it don't get sick, most who get sick don't get seriously sick, but.....it can also be fatal. I can't imagine staying away from mosquitos all the time, or being bathed in repellant all the time! Dang little blood suckers, gotta wonder what God was thinking on that one!

How long does West Nile virus last? It is estimated that 1 in 150 persons infected with the West Nile virus will develop a more severe form of disease. Symptoms of mild disease will generally last a few days. Symptoms of severe disease may last several weeks, although neurological effects may be permanent. |

I googled it, says it's like malaria. the dude that has it near me is almost dead, he's not doing good at all. said you start dehydrating, and start with severe headaches, nausea, and soon the docs can't replentish fluids faster than your body sweats it out. there were other signs too, said a person carries it awhile before it affects them. I think we've had 3 deaths in NE this year so far. one of my cop friends had her horse die from it already. seems to really affect people that have immune issues....like I have right now! this is scary. i'm gonna go get another fogger at the farm store tomarrow, the one I got 2 years ago and last year won't work anymore! they only last about a year (made/sold by BONIDE company) used to have one of those big stainless steel ones, they were the best fogger, the motor finally scattered on that one. that one lasted about 20 years! can't find that kind around here anymore! PffffT! do any of ya'll fog your places? I live next to a deep creek and that's why I do it here.

Had several cases in the state, mostly around Atlanta, don't think anyone has died from it yet. We are dry around here right now so that should keep the population down but I may look into a fogger also. I keep a couple of citronella plants close to each door of the house, they are supposed to be a good repellant.

Cutters is a better repellent, cause it beats off and comes in a can! ![]() I was just reading that citronella has no effect on them. You won't get skeeters from any water that moves. get rid of all your old tires and any other source of standing water. Essential oils are a better repellent and do not contain deet.

Old gal makes a repellent that works well on regular Skeeter's, hope it works on these little creeps. Guess we'll find out, if I was to bring anything else home she'd get a real pouty lip. Oh well we got ta go sometime.

I call the retention ponds that are so popular now " West Nile Breeding Farms " I put goldfish in the cattle water tubs, they eat the wigglers and little bits of feed...Harvey

Since we voted down a new tax to have a Skeeter control district county wide here a few years ago no more news about people dying from it.
Well not as much anyway. There were some that died here from it as well as horses. But if nobody makes money on it and promotes it to the news, the news people don't talk about it. If I had a horse worth the effort I would vacinat it but the one here is only yard art.
