On You Tube, just watched the Blizzard of 1949. Man if that happened this year, people would be in real trouble. Towards the end it pictured Allis crawlers, and a rotor baler being used to help stranded people in need. Think I saw somewhere Allis had a video about there helping in that blizzard.

Very interesting video, thank you for sharing. Where were the pictures taken? Doesn't look like central Ohio. Interesting way of moving those stacks of hay.

nnowadays there is a paved road to everywhere, accept today peploe are boobs they close the schools and roads when a cloud comes over , i really did like that video

Twelve states were affected by the storms, but four — Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota — were the focus of Operation Snowbound

Yea that's a good one. What were the " low boys" made out of that they pushed the hay onto. Did they build them just for that.

Back then, everybody pitched in to dig out and used everything they could get there hands on. Dad talked about the hours/days on a WD with a loader [narrow bucket] plowing out from a blizzard. These days people stay where they are and wait for the road crews to open up, And they have much bigger loaders,snow blowers, graders and plow trucks. Also the government orders a state of emergency and brings in the national guard. The guard air drops supplies where needed and provides humvees to fire Departments. We have bigger tractors, big snow blowers and walk behind blowers. Snow blizzards are not a big deal these days.

Back in the mid 70's we had an ice storm and lost power then it turned to snow and dumped 22" on top of the ice. We huddled in the kitchen using a kerosene heater and lamps for 10 days. It was not fun. Guess that is why I have a generator as an insurance for it never happening again. And so far it has not but have used it a couple of times for summer storms that left us powerless.

Looking at the HD5G pushing snow and moving the hay stacks . Used mine many winters here to clear snow in and around yard and shop , did quite a few rural drives and farmyards also with the HD5G - then with the HD5B and the 9' blade it moved snow but as the blade was not very high it didn't work as well as the 5G did later when i got the FD5 Fiat Allis dozer was sure faster and easier with grouser pads and the ability to use the 6 way angle blade .
Here in 91 when we has the Halloween storm and deep freeze a day or so later I used my 715B TLB and spent over 48 hours opening my plowing contracts with it before I could have help plow with pickup plows

The blizzard of 1978 here in Ohio started out warm and rainin and turned to snow by morning and blowing, there was snow so deep it covered a semi in Mansfield they called out the National Guard with dozer to help clear the roads
