Most of them have ether inject system and some had diesel fuel heater option. What are you needing?

Hello, my hd7 has the coil type where diesel is sprayed onto a spark which is generated my the coil

Never seen such a device, photos of the old? I have seen air intake heaters, look like a sparkplug but have a heat coil rather than a gap and no ignition coil to pop it. Most of those did not work all that well and have long been discontinued where a ether spray in the intake works batter for firing chamber heating during a starting roll.

Yes, it's sparks then diesel is sprayed over it to flame it

i found this info. not sure what you are needing Heater operation for M1 Tractor (military HD10) pdf starting pg 18. also these parts book pics from HD5 with heater similiar to what you should have

All the parts are the same but it looks like it's fitted different to on my hd7.
Would like parts from the last page which is part 4 and 7.

how did that little canister thing on the dash with a cap and chain on it work. I have never seen it used

gotta love google. according to google searching. those are GM part #'s and I found interchange #'s maby something still available
cap and chain cannister was for ether capsules.. before bottle or can spray systems
Im guessing near impossible to find insulator piece, but maby a modern coil could be fitted to work.

The coil has build in points on the top so it's hard to find a stand in coil that you could easy make fit

A rubber ball containing ether is put in the canister. When the top is installed the ball is punctured. The dash mounted injector is pumped to move the ether to the intake manifold. I had an HD7 with this system.

Those ether systems were used on other AC gear - the 45 graders had a similar system. And the manuals suggest the capsule was gelatine.

I think i saw a can a while back that looked like a old school brake fluid metal can with screw top that was empty that said something like surefire on it i bet that is what came in that .

I have heard some old guys talking about taking some carbide and spitting on it and sticking it next to the air breather to start diesels back in the day

That was the first way they sold it. Uncle talked of putting a little in pump oil can and spray down the intake. But would evaporate out of oil can,so put unused part back in screw top can and close it good and tight. Capsules were the next to keep them from evaporating,were ok if you had the set up to us them. He said once someone saw the spray cans everything else was forgotten very soon.

Carbide rock makes acetylene gas when wet, we use it for killing moles by dropping down in their runs GASSEM!! Would be interesting as to setting a fire in a Detroit intake, never considered it was done, did use gasoline in a squirt oil can when can ether or capsules was unavailable, just have to be light touch to the trigger. Gas on a rag does almost as well just need two people.
