A couple of months ago I bought on e-bay, a belt buckle that came from the gathering of the orange in Washington Kansas. This weekend at Hutchinson, a fellow told me that Ernie Knutsch was selling them and you could put the serial number of your "A" on the back. Well I have made it home and looked on the back of this belt buckle and sure enough there is a serial number on it. Serial no. A26226. I was just wondering who owns this "A". It was an interesting story, can't find the owner on this site registery. Does anyone else have one of these belt buckles and is this story true? Dave.

When the GOTO was held in Washington KS in 2000 and featured the A tractor its was announced that a registry was started and belt buckles with each serial number would be available to A owners. Mine is somewhere in the shop. Given the current circumstances I withhold the rest of my thoughts on the belt buckle deal.

So there was over 1200 belt buckles at the show? Or did you have to order it and have it shipped with your number added?

They were ordered ahead of time but hand stamped at the show when you picked it up

So it would be interesting to know who's belt buckle I have. It makes you wonder did the owner pass away or just sell the tractor, or just loose interest in owning the buckle.

I got a few extra buckles that where not stamped from Ernie at the show. He did sell some and just put #'s on them hopeing that no one would end up with one that their # was used. Ernie said they would just stamp another one with that #. He had a Book with the # 's of the buckels that he did stamp.I seen the book ,would be anyones guess of what happen to that book. Dave Bowers AKA" Desert DOG" had a count of tractors .I think it was less then 75 a few of them where the WANT to Be A's made out of Copper Oil Rig tractors!

I had Ernie stamp a buckle with the serial number for my A when we were at the GOTO in Union Grove, WI. It went with the tractor, but I doubt the buckle was with the tractor when it went across the pond. Ernie looked in his book to see if he had stamped that number before.

The counts vary as it depended on what one considered to be an A. I laughed as I read Freds's post because it brought back a memory of Dave Bowers walking behind each tractor and looking for serial numbers, when he got to my tractor he was laughing, "we are looking for imposters" Dave at that time owned two As and an imposter but brought the imposter to the show,,, you just have to know him. The count? I think 56, been 10 years ago after all. That show was when I first met Fred,, is that good or bad? LOL

So, Dave E., I take it that the buckle didn't make it across. John C.: Was your number already stamped?

So if Dave makes it back to Eastern Pa, maybe he could hire Steve to come and distract Fred by trying to jump high enough to look in the window at the shop. While Fred is distracted, Dave can make off with an A belt buckle that has his A's serial number already stamped in it. OOPPS I might have let Fred in on the plan.

Apparently the buckle didn't make it. Ernie looked in his book to see if it had already been stamped, it had not, so he stamped it right there on the spot.
