Air filter cleaner gizmo, anyone tried one

   As I am preparing equipment for the up coming spring planting, 
I am wondering if anyone on here has ever tried one of those air filter cleaners with the forced air spinners on the end if a wand. With price of new air filters for farm equipment are these gizmos all that they are made out to be. I did consult with youtube and not much success. Thanks

	If your talking about a shop tool that puts compressed air into the inside of the filter to push the dirt / dust OUT.... then yes, the THEORY is right... By using an air gun you have teh possibility of blowing a hole thru the element. A lower pressure "FLOW" of air can / should clean out the filter. When i was involved with heavy construction machines, we use to WEIGHT a new filter, then weigh again after removal to see how much "DIRT" it held.... We would blow them out, then reweigh to see how much was removed, and how much was STUCK inside.. That way you can monitor if its time to replace after 2 -3 -4 cleanings.

	On construction equipment with limited Dirt encrusted longevity these work so so. Save a few bucks over the long run having to buy so many filters. Have to be Mindful as the Blown Air thru the element creates a low pressure that draws the nasty down into the Clean Side are blowing into to push dust out that dirty side. A TABLESOON of Dust was all that we used as a example statement running a decent Old Engine that was using some oil and had lost some HP on a dyno. Sprinkled it into Turbo inlet and watched the changes DRASTICALLY occur on the dyno gauges almost immediately, a tablespoon of floor sweepings destroyed what was left of that engine in a matter of seconds.

	i've seen others use them, never tried one myself. i think they would be better than using just the one air gun shot. i know that if the filters are really bad, it's better to just replace them instead of trying save it. kinda like us trying to use a clogged face filter!

	I have seen air filters for crawlers that weight 10 pound new, and had 20 pounds of dirt in them.... 30 # filter / clean and get back to 12- 13 # and ready for another month. thats why a lot of construction machinery has inner and outer filters. Edited by steve(ill) - 26 Mar 2022 at 7:34pm
