 Topic: Repairing HD11E Idler

I own a 1957 HD11E with heavly worn idler wheels on both tracks. The center "alignment hump" was allowed to be worn to the point that it started collapsing/folding in on itself. I'm in the middle of replacing the center section. I'm using 2 1/2" wide x 1/2" plate. My plan is to do two layers for a 1" total height. Does anyone know what the original height was? Does anyone foresee any issues with a 1" height?

the manual i have lists outside flange dia (alignment hump as you've called it) as 30.38" (771.65mm) and the diameter that the track runs on is 28.56"(725.42mm) hope this helps , If you measure from the track rail to the pin bush should give you the thickness you can use! if it is to high it will run on the pins instead of rails

Look under the one HD5 post - I put up a picture of a HD5 track gauge and it might give you a idea of the height / width of the idler in relation to track and rollers . If the idler is worn that far the roller shells probably are worn also .
The pins should not touch the idler nor should the end of the pins in the track hit the roller shell outer flange.

The HD11 idler center height is 27.046" and the shoulder is 25.125"

Yes, the roller shells are worn, but not proportional to the idlers. I know the last owner replaced both drive sprokets. I'm not sure if he also replaced the chain, or anything else. I'll post a picture when the rain stops. I'm a diesel mechanic, but I don't work on tracked vehicles, so I'm completely new to tracked undercarriage. I'm still sorting though the terminology.

The pictures show that the chain is badly worn on the outside because of misalignment. The pins look exelent so the chain was rebuilt or changed. Is the inside of both chains worn as much as the picture shows the outside is?

The outside of the left chain measures 3 5/8" and the inside measures 3 3/4". NC has turned into Seattle (more rain), so I haven't measured the right chain yet.
