Well,
Wont be able to have the combine ready for my local customer. So I trekked home over the weekend and picked up my All-Crop 66 for the customer to use...280 miles one way.
Trailer emty: 23 MPG. Loaded: 7-9 MPG. Dodge 12v 5.9 cummins. Across PA across I-80 over the Appalachians. Includes the highest point on I-80 E of Mississippi; 2250 feet above sea level.
Should I complain?
Tom

Why bother? In my case nobody ever listens really, they just stand there and nod their heads and figure out a way to get away. I'd suppose it would be the same in everybody elses case too. The only thing accomplished is the venting thingy usually. But maybe that is worth something!!!!!! LOL Just suck it up and offer it for penance!!!! Really I wish you well, irregardless the scatological smart ace answer!!

What is there to complain about? the fuel mileage? I just hauled a 72 home the other day and we got 14 MPG with it on the gooseneck. these combines are not the most aerodynamic items to haul.

I remember when I was towing a 60. Stopped by Policeman. Asked how wide I was. I said a "little over 8 feet" He came back with a smile and said "how about 12' 6". Told me to move on carefully without going through any towns.
Don't think that would work today though. Too many regulations. Good Luck! Bill Long

Yes pretty much flat land, Pulling with a 2002 Duramax Almost 200 miles 1 way, took a lot of back roads. I believe a 72 is about 10'8'' wide when towing but can't remember exactly. |

I had mine loaded backwards, tongue on the end of the trailer. Cant be good hauling with that "wall" of sheetmetal. I bet I would have gotten better if header up front.

Sorry, but the highest road east of the Mississippi is in Maryland on US 50. 3090 feet. Just stopped there on the motorcycle June 1 on the way back from D.C. 23 mpg empty is great!

I think Tom specifically meant highest point on I-80. I suppose officially the highest road east of the Mississippi would be the approach road to Mt. Mitchell in NC... 6,684 feet.

You guys! 2200 feet is lower then the lowest point in Colorado (3015 near Holly, just across the line from Kansas). I live at 5300' and yes we have enough oxygen to breath.
Great millage heading west, need to work on the east bound millage! Not trying to diss anyone, just saying... |

All you need is a Slow Moving Vehicle sign Bill, and keep off the interstates. |

JohnCo, you should get good milage heading east form Colorado. Coming off the High Plains is all downhill for a long ways. I think it drops something like 1000 feet in a hundred miles from Colorado into western Kansas doesn't it? I hauled a load of seed corn to Apache Wells once with a head wind and it pulled the heck out of my Mack. I would get to a place where I thought it looked downhill and I would kick it up a gear just to reach over and drop it right back down. When I looked in the mirror I was just leveling off and not going down. Your long grades out there sure screw up one's perception don't they? I still like that country though!

Tom, i have a 02, 24 valve cummins 3500 with a tall utility body that i towed a 16' cube trailer loaded to Florida in Feb. for the GOA loaded down and back. 10 MPG.
Problem that i have is i can't get better than 12.5 without the trailer. I think it should get at least 15 the truck isn't loaded very heavy.
