This is a D12 III, Serial number 9767. The number on the engine flange is the engine serial number.  This is on the left side as sitting on the seat ready to operate the tractor.  Numbers are on the 45 deg or whatever degree slope.

Well I just got back home and I took another quick look. The only numbers I could find Were on either side of the trans directly below the seat. On the right side (as you are sitting on the tractor is 208104 and on the left side in about the same place is 223945. The only other numbers I could find all started with AM-   which I'm assuming were factory parts numbers. It's raining pretty good out here so I wasn't going to spend too much time crawling around a tractor. If neither of thease seem right I'll take another look when I get into town again and it's not raining.
It's nice to see rain finally though!!!!!!

No need to crawl around the tractor. The number you want is on the front flange of the torque tube on the left side of the tractor, just as Joe's picture shows. If you stand facing the left side of the tractor and look down at the torque tube flange, you can see the stampings. AM numbers are casting numbers for Allis Milwaukee.

Calvin if it still is of interest to you I just got back from town again and found the serial number, it is    D10 1808           Dennis.

The 1808 serial number tells me that the tractor has been repainted. 1808 should be PO #1 with a silver and black grill and orange wheel centers. Tracy Martin, check out the grill guard for early D-10/12 . Dennis did you buy it yet or did you buy the Series III?
