I have located a 238 corn head , orange, it came off a E. It doesn't have a connection with the fingers between the two augers , looks like some do and some do not. I was wondering why and if something is missing.

I think I know what you're talking about...the center part of the auger with the retracting fingers. 
Why do corn heads not have those? Just the 2 opposing auger flightings butting up to each other.

If you get the head make sure you get the slip clutch that installs on the left side of feeder beater
