I have an I 400 which is the industrial version of D10, It makes an awful groaning noise when backing up, no problem  going forward, where do I start looking. It also jumps out of 2nd gear.

not any help to you but, my sisters d14 is making a noise in reverse as well.
if i pull back hard on the shifter it stops making noise.
not sure if its a bearing/bushing issue on the main shaft.
the reverse idler that the shift fork rides in is just a gear with bushing on a shaft. the actual reverse gear is on the main shaft.
