When i was a kid Dad and Nevin Tasto did the Carroll County 4H Tractor saftey program at our shop [Wertz Farm Equipment] The older guys that were already certified needed a project awile Nevin held the class for the younger ones. Dad had a WC with a blown motor and A 1959 Plymouth 318 and automatic transmission. The 4H guys with Dads help put the 318 in the WC with hand brakes. It had both the allis transmission and the automatic transmission. It was a lot of fun but never finished enough for tractor pulling.

I think repower was popular many years ago before they starting really pumping the power out of the stock blocks. When Ms are up to 150-200hp @2000rpm it doesn't make much sense to repower.

Theres been a few 292 Chevy transplants. Speed, or in this case, power is just a question of money. How fast, or powerful can you afford to go?

What do you want to do with it? I searched here a few months ago and posted some questions. (I must not be using the correct search words...) For instance, I found examples of a chevy smallblock fitting in the frame-rails of a WD, with minor notching. There is a way of making a plate to match the engine to the WD trans, and using the WD clutch. This method is reported to drive too fast for tractor work, but great for pulling. On the other hand, as mentioned above, putting a trans between an engine and the WD trans should allow for gearing to do tractor work. When I get some other projects done, I plan to try to modify a Dodge New Process 436 mated to the WD trans, and use a Dodge engine (I already have these parts, otherwise I might try a different brand.)

I believe some gleaner combines were powered by chevy engines. It might be worth looking into whether the backing plate would work on a wd. it would make things simpler.

The chevy engines were just a long bell housing that ended with a double V-belt pulley. No correlation to a WC/WD bell housing.

Something else to think about is what are the rules where you plan to pull it. Seems like someone did the 292 Chevy 6 when their association altered it's rules to favor some Oliver guys. They didn't realize that change allowed the A-C guys to use the Chevy 292. Just something to think about...
