So I was brush hogging when I went under a branch and creased the muffler. Of course the restricted exahust caused rough running so I parked it and got a new muffler.
So I am cutting today and it sputters a bit when if goes thru some tough spots....hmmm...not normal...but otherwise running fine. Then I run over a rough patch that, actually a mound of dirt that casues the whole unit to konk out...OUCH! been a while since I did that! So I fired it back up and now it sputters and farts 100% of the time....Seems to me I must of hosed something when I was running it a bit with restricted exhaust...yes other than me giving the tractor abuse, what you think is the problem? Inspect the manifold to see if you cracked it, or moved it. Could be a leaky intake gasket, or pulled a stud out...

If you hit it hard enough to bend the muffler, you might look at the manifold and see if it cracked and is sucking air somewhere ?

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Well guys looked at the manifold. Everything looks good. The manifold was put on when I refurbed the unit about 15 yrs ago so it is solid. So it may be a seal leak....any trick on how to figure that out? Would issue be caused by intake, or outake, both?

Carb cleaner sprayed near a vacuum leak (air intake region) will make the engine bog down. I bought a used but not terribly abused '52 WD last December and it had exhaust and I suspected intake leaks too. The muffler was rusted bad, poor fitment to the manifold. Since I was going to have to fight with rusted manifold nuts to put seals to the block, I ordered a new manifold (WD45 version, possible the same as the D17 has?) and the kit came with the new seals, plus I ordered the matching muffler. Engine runs a lot better now, and of course much more quietly. .

Mine looked good on a 1951 WD. After always having to adjust the carb all the time I discovered the manifold was eroded and tappered from years of use. New manifold and manifold gaskets solved the problem.

>>Carb cleaner sprayed near a vacuum leak (air intake region) will make the engine bog down. Thanks for the tip. Hope I can tell a difference cause it sputters and backfires at all times.
