Been working on this tractor off and on since I got in from LA.

About 4 weeks ago one day hit about 65 degrees broke down the left rear tire these hard old tires are not easy to get off the rims.

There was another WD high crop I taken off the rear wheels and front as the rest of the tractor has lots of other issue's but had WD 45 engine in it when I got this a couple years ago thought the motor was stuck.
So I had put the ATF and Acetone in all the cylinders.
We were getting ready to pull the engine out and most likely part it out.
so about three weeks ago I decide to take the starter off and out and put a bar on the flywheel to my surprise it turn over some but still some what hard.
when I had tried to turn this over when I got tractor in just tried the fan belt.
Removed the spark plugs and it was still hard to turn over.
when looking at the Generator and the water pump were both lock up so I removed the Belt and to my surprise the motor did turn over.

So put different carb on and clean up the points up and starter.
pushed all the ATF and acetone out I could then reinstall the plugs and start it up smoke at first as it burn out the ATF has good oil pressure and clean up nice did not see much smoke at all.

Last week pulled the motor and put into the other tractor still need to try out as far the transmission and other items.

Yesterday we clean out the front steering gear box and made cover plate.
The gears look good.

Richard,
I know nothing about high crops other than from your posts. I see you mention Thompson. Were they a company that made these after market? How many were made and what were some of the crops they were bought for. We don't see any around here.

I have a Thompson WD 45 Hi Crop. It came from New Orleans area. The original owner had worked for Thompson. His words were, he thinks 350 to 400 were done. There are no records and he was certain less than 500 for sure. He passed about 6 months after I purchased the tractor.

Thompson worked with AC - they were based in Thibodaux, La.  I bumped an older post.  They put a lot of 2-71 GMC diesels in UC cane tractors.  These were for cultivating sugar cane in wide rows on beds.  I actually got to see a few in my AC daze in south LA.  It is a different part of the world - say it be so eh Thad Joe ?  It was ver common to see 190's  high clear with 10,000 hours or more at Plaquemine at Cane equipment.  Ran the old rigs hard year round. Disc , plow, bed, plant, cultivate, harvest and haul to the refinery in those old days.

yes as stated by tban.
These tractor were used in the cane fields for building up the rows for the cane, were they needed lots of height of clearance.
Also these tractor were made into cane Loaders.

Allis supplied parts to Thomson.
Thomson made lots of the front ends and rear cast wheels and rims.

Today we change out the manifold gasket.
Someone had used look like leather for a gasket and made metal shims.

Installed the radiator and got the tractor running.
Transmission is good all gears work and hand clutch works.
Need the brakes work on.
those rear tires make for a rough ride.

Link to the tractor running.

Last weekend decided I would fix some leaks on the tractor.

Start out by changing out the water pump and make sure the Pulley will be able to adjusted if needed.

Also the water manifold thermostat housing was leaking.
while removing the bolts only one broke.
To make easier to change out the water pump and now drill out the bolt I removed the radiator.

Had another Water manifold already off so I removed it the Thermostat housing.

Change these parts out and start to put it back together and add antifreeze then notice the Water manifold was leaking at the back anchor of the head.
It had been welded and the weld had very little penetration at all.

so I drilled out the 2 bolts and tap the holes because they had broke on the other water manifold and made gaskets.

When I went to reinstall the exhaust Manifold the first hole strip out in the head.

I had Heli coli set with the correct size so drilled out and tap it out.

Did not like the front grill so I grab one that I had off another parts tractor, spent about 1 hour trying to straighten out top left front and welded the screen back the top.
Front Grill where the generator goes was a bent up to make easier to get the bolts out.

Still needs some work but looks some what better.

This started out as about 2 hours project turn into about 9 hours.

Still need to get better radiator and more items to come.

Great stuff. It was always a treat for me as kid to head down to south La and see all those high crop ACs. It was also common for us to see White tractors and maybe an Oliver or two. We don't have Whites up in North La and Olivers were like hens teeth. I vividly remember some of the old D series high crops in the fields as we drove down to visit family.
Behind every great farm is an orange tractor!

Thanks for the update on your high crop. I haven't found or heard of any up here in MI. I am trying to make one of my WDs into a high crop. Not as easy as I was hoping.

Still working on this tractor.
Put a set of new tires on the Front today.
Clean up the rims and painted last weekend.
Had lined the Gas tank awhile back.
Found better sheet metal,
Had bought a Carb off Ebay, they had listed it as had come up WD 45.
but it definitely is for a WD.

Made a new 1/4" Gas line out of brake line and Flare the ends.
