I think you could make better use of your time with a fishing pole and some bait. The corn will just have to take care of itself. |

Yep, unless you can adapt a rowgator to accept cultivators(and probably not then, might need a crop duster with spray rigs. LOL), go fishing. That WD is just going to cause you heartache and lost money.

Don, I have just the tool you need to cultivate that corn. It's a long wooden handle that fits in your hands and has a sharp piece of metal on the bottom. Or you could just walk it and pull any weeds you see. Been there done that.
It looks great, hope it isn't stressed too much and you get a rain shower when you need it. Charlie |

Looks like good corn for silage! I used to love chopping in a field like that....of course back in SD it rarely got over 3' tall back in the 60's and 70's.

All the corn around here is so heat stressed I can't see it making anything. Many years ago I brought some corn seed back from Honduras, it was your standard feed, flour, and roasting ear corn, white of course. when I bought it I seen that the seed came from the US so I figured I would be ok for I have heard if it comes from the other side of the equator funny things can happen. I planted it in a piece of nice fertile semi bottom ground and boy how it grew. I wish I had a picture of it for some of it got 18 feet tall. It had anchor roots coming down to the ground from six foot up the stalk. many had three ears per stalk that started at the ten foot mark. It was the most amazing and bewildering site you ever saw. The locals would have to stop and ask what it was I was growing. i still have some seed in the freezer and wanted to plant it this year but didn't get to. I will try again next year and if I have the same success I will post some pics.

Thanks guys for the kind words about the corn.
I put 50 lbs of 13-13-13 on with the planter and them side dressed with 46-0-0 at one month of planting it. This is what you get with 50 farming habits and today's corn. lol
FYI I learned as a kid that them danged old hoes are lots of work. lol
Rick we did good this spring now like Mike and Junkman are saying the heat might get it this time )-: Don

Don, up here we usually don't need to do a rain dance. We wait for my brother in law to mow hay and it rains. Well today he baled hay and it hadn't been rained on. We might be in trouble. Another thing that helps is getting everybody to wash their cars.
If you dance too long, you can send any extra up here. I'm afraid I might have to haul water to my maters before leaving for Hutch. Charlie Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 19 Jul 2011 at 7:20pm |

Well I went out side to do the rain dance and that was a bad idea; the dry, hard ground made my feet hurt trying to dance on it. lol
