Stater could be locked to flywheel starter ring gear, remove starter and bench test it to see if it will run. |

First, remove the ground cable from the battery. Take the starter out and check it out. With the starter out, check that the engine is free turning by putting the crank on it and roll it over a couple times.
Things can get worn enough to let the gears climb each other and lock up. Mice can also build nest so thick it will wind up in the starter and ring gear, and lock things up. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 07 Aug 2018 at 4:48pm |

Good heavy cables shouldn’t get hot. Can you read the gauge of the cable stamped in the insulation? If it’s getting hot it is dropping too much voltage.

Hot cables mean big time amp draw. Could be Starter needs a rebuld, cables to light, bad battery, dirty connections. Cable size should be 1 gauge or larger if running 6VPG. If the Starter is dragging, probably needs a rebuild. We offer Starter motor rebuilding the correct way if interested.... Steve@B&B

Kills the GAUGE?
Sounds like the gauge wiring has become a better return path than something that's supposed to be the return path... Cables get hot for one of two reasons- they're carrying too much power, or they're too resistive. With my prior sentence as reference, I'll BET you've got a bad cable... |

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.
