i put a new tach and cable on my 17 . if i put the cable in the tach drive (distributor side) first and line up the key thats on the cable with the drive then put it in the tach it willonly work for a little while and then the key slides out of the drive. i can take it apart and put the key in the drive and not even an hour it comes back out. my question is ,is there a part that goes in the back of the tach and the cable goes in to space it out a little bit? this part would have to have o female and male square on it?

 thanks Shawn

On my series II there is a little plastic do hicky that goes on the drive and the cable sticks into.  The tack end if I remember right just goes into the tach.  Then you just screw them down.  The plastic piece is a very pricey piece.   Got mine at Agco.

Sounds like inner cable is to short or the outer to long. The ones we sell for the D17 are 56" long and have the metal key crimped on one end. the dist end will accept about 3/4" and the tach end about 1/2". David www.djstractorparts.intuitwebsites.com

You have me looking now. I got out a new cable made by KC speedometer. The end with tang will not recede into housing. A nylon washer makes it stick out about 3/4 inch. The tact end sticks out 1/2 inch. If washer is missing cable could work in to tack.
