My uncle was killed in a farming accident this past week and at the funeral my aunt informed me that he had always said that I was to get his WD 45 if anything happened to him. However, it is in about a thousand pieces and in the middle of a restoration. Any suggestions or advice on where to find help with restoration and parts? I teach ag mechanics in high school and am fairly good at working on machinery, but this will be my first restoration and I would appreciate any help. We are wanting to get it up and running by spring.

WD's are pretty easy to restore and work on. Parts are fairly plentiful. Start with looking at the rear end. By the rear end cover, to the left side there is a serial number and that will give the year of the tractor. We'll all try and help you out and I'm sure there is someone near to you that may be able to help. You definetley came to the right place.

Get a manual at least the IT version, if you are going to move the parts to another location to work on make sure you get everything, if your not sure if it goes with the tractor take it anyway you can return any " exta parts " later. also this forum has many members who have lots of experiance and are willing to help answer your questions!! If indeed he wanted you to have it this will be a great way to remember him!!

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle.
What's in pieces? The motor or the entire tractor? If he planned on rebuilding the motor, he may have an engine overhaul kit already among the pieces. As for the rest of the tractor, check the Allis Store here and find a service manual. The old WC, WD, WD-45s were not that complicated. The mechanics of them were fairly straightforward. All you need to know is the tolerances and how to make adjustments on the brakes, hand clutch, and such.

Sorry to hear about your Uncle. Let us know the tractor number stamped on the differential housing and maybe take some pictures of what you have when you get things gathered up. Take things one step at a time and you'll soon have a tractor.

Before you do any painting get the thing put back together and running to see what you are missing and what needs to be replaced. With your knowledge of mechanics you shouldn't have any problems. Come back here when you have questions and keep us updated on your progress. There are enough of us here that someone may be right in your neighborhood that could help you face to face. I about met my maker in Paola KS. On my way to the Union Grove WI gathering of the Orange and was chased by a tornado. Shut down the truck in a ravine just off the highway and rode it out. Softball sized hail shattered the front windshield and did all sorts of damage to my truck. Was a friday night if I remember and we had to drive through the night with the windshield shattered. Long drive.
I would be happy to assist how ever I can. Lots of WD experience. Just give me a call on our toll free number if you have a specific question, or as others said, at least get a manual. 1st gather everything with a hint of orange paint and box it up in the groups it is in now. The piles probably are groupings that mattered to your uncle. JimD

Sorry about your uncle.
I'm about 15 miles west of Paola. I know WD's enough to cause problems. Finds some service manuals would be a good start.

Menefee, First, I very sorry to hear about your uncle. It's never easy. As far as the tractor. You got off on the right foot. You can do anything to that tractor by asking questions right here. These people are the best experts. I fixed up my wd-45 with their help. Now I sometimes give advice. Show some pics of it's current state, these folks are ready. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your uncle. I still have one like that. He gave me half my farm and I had to buy out his son for the rest, for half of what it was worth. You're at the right place and you will get plenty of help!! Pay attention and ask LOTS of questions. The only stupid question is the one you never asked. AND WELCOME to the BEST forum on the internet!! Now you'll have orange in your blood too.

I see a class project in the making. Our old ag teacher always made us work on his stuff. Plus it would be a good learning experience for the kids. |

I live in your county, right on Hilsdale lake. You're welcome to look at my WD if you need a visual on anything. I'm no mechanic, but sounds like you have that covered.
