    Posted: 23 Jul 2018 at 3:03pm
I'm looking for my first truck. It's the first truck that had my name on the title, first date with the wife, first ride with the baby, first.... We'll y'all get it. I traded it before Cora came along because it was a regular cab and you just can't put 2 adults and 2 car seats in a regular cab. I traded with a Days Chevrolet about 5 years ago and I know it was going to auction. I contacted the dealer and got a quick "we can't help". I have the VIN and I have to go to the department of MFer's and villains (DMV) tomorrow to get my license renewed and I plan to ask them but we'll see. Anybody else got an opinion on how to find it? I figure if it was registered then I should be able to find it with the VIN but it may be wishful thinking

Good luck. Cause I'm thinking that will be the best help. Years ago I remember something about Hollywood (I think )stocking case were the bad guy got information from DMV,so here big deal made goverment would not give out any information.

Maybe carfax or whatever the names is places would get you something,if you pay.

DMV should have that information but I doubt they will release it. They won't even let law enforcement run a license plate now unless they have a valid reason such as traffic stop, etc. Post a description of the truck and just maybe one of us will get lucky and run across it.  And I like your name for the DMV, pretty accurate. LOL Wish you luck in locating it.

In Nebraska a title search through the state (not county) DMV will cost you one dollar. You give them the VIN and they tell you the last person that they show was titled to it. You have to fill out a form first of course. We've used it when we have a vehicle without a title and we use the bonded title process. First step is to locate the last known owner (this is where the title search comes in) and have them say in writing whether they know where the title is or not. You're not technically doing this so, technically this process can't be used for what you're after.....technically.

Search you're state DMV website and see if they have a similar process.

We'll try this to Hubert. It's a white 97 Silverado z71. It had tinted side and rear windows, a Harley Davidson sticker on the window behind the driver's seat, BFG all terrains the last time I saw it, a dent in the front of the bed from loading a four wheeler in winter, GM bedliner, scratch on the left side of the tail gate toward the top from a single axle trailer tongue, clear coat peeling on the hood, steering wheel cover peeling on the top, couple of cigarette burns in the driver's seat, floor shift 4wd not buttons, 256,000 miles when I traded it. Man I miss that truck.

With that many miles, it might be in China already.

If you know anybody that works for a car dealership, you might have the title clerk call the local office that registers vehicles. Sometimes those folks can sweet talk those gals into running a vin # at no cost.

I wish you all the luck in the world finding your truck. I did the same thing with my first car a 1977 Trans Am 4 speed. I found a copy of the vin in the attic and had a friend who was a state trooper run it for me. Car was five miles from me and I had been driving past it for 4 years. They had repainted the car but I would tell my wife I had one just like it with those wheels! Well it was my car and I went and bought it. The sad part was after the novelty wore off and common sense sat in I realized the car was too far gone to restore and ended up selling it to a guy that parts them out. I hope your story doesn't end up the same way mine did.

I still have (the shell) of my first car, a 1968 Chevy impala 2 door coupe. the engine (327 cid) was the rebuilt engine that was put in dad's '67 Chevy pickup that the stockholder sold for $165.00!
