D-17 rocker arms

   OK, I had a cracked head on my D-17.  Got a different head.  I had been apart for a while.  Anyhow, started putting it back together.  Got to the rocker arms and where it would bolt onto the head and it won't sit flush on the spots where the bolts go through into the head.

One person told me that since its a different head that Ill have to roll the motor over so the cam would turn.  That doesn't make a lot of sence to me.  Shouldn't it sit down and bolt up tight?  Even if the push rods are in a different spots there should be enough give that it would sit down and bolt up.  Surely I don't need a different rocker arm?

	I am not aware of any position of the camshaft that wont have at least one valve open somewhere. As long as it doesn't stand off the deck more than a 3/8" -1/2" or so, you should be fine. As you tighten it down, tighten all four bolts evenly, what will happen is the rocker arms will come down to the head, and one or two valves will be forced open. This is normal! If you get into a bind, STOP, there could be something wrong that we aren't aware of, but you should be able to take a standard 6" long 9/16" wrench and use one finger to tighten the nuts down until the rocker arms are seated on the deck, (if the threads are clean) Any more force than that, and you could have a problem.

	Just be sure to loosen up adjusting screws so there is no chance of valve/piston interference.Don't know if it's possible to have a clearance issue but just to be sure.Otherwise what Orange Blood said sounds right.

	Thanks Orange Blood. I kinda thought about just tightening down and see how much resistance I got. Just safer to ask first. I think thats kinda what my brother was talking about instead of the push rods. Just have to shove a vavle or two open. Guess I just thought there would be enough "pivot" action that it would sit on there. Thanks.
