Couple questions about air cleaner on the G:
First of all my oil cup has no marker as to how much oil to put in, can anybody give me a specific volume? Or relatively even? There are the three holes in the inner cup that allow oil to spill into the rest of the cup, I have it topped off above them. Problem: Oil seems to be getting sucked back up the air cleaner sleeve and leaking out of the air intake... What causes this? Is it low or high oil level in the cup? Poor pressure? |

Manual says 1/2 pint oil in the cup. No specific weight.

1/2 pint capacity. Is oil coming out the top center of the air cleaner? If so, I would think you have Leaking intake valves, letting compression blow back through. Not sure how it would run very good that way. The only other thing would be backfire from timing issues, which you would be aware of if it happens.

Warren, most say whatever you use in the engine. I have seen air cleaners that say right on them to add USED MOTOR OIL .

If your saying oil is coming out the top/air inlet of the air cleaner, I think you will find that you have a leaking intake valve. My D-10 was doing that, I had the head rebuilt/valves ground. It no longer blows oil out the air cleaner.

Thanks for the feedback. Timing has been (or so I've thought) an issue with this tractor and I have been working on getting it sorted. Based on what your saying I am going to hope that the timing is the problem and not the valves, but based on my experience with timing this thing I fear the worst. Thanks again. JK

A couple of test you can try.
With the engine running remove a spark plug one at a time. See if you can hear a difference from one cylinder to another. With the spark plugs in, crank it over by hand and listen closely as each cylinder comes to the top. You might be able to hear air blowing back threw the air intake. Do a compression test. Dusty
