This looks to be an early model IU-1 with a Continental engine. As far as I know only industral models had mufflers. You can see the tail pipe attached to the radiator. I say early model because of the Allis Chalmers name casted on the side of the rad and the use of steel wheels. I don't see this on the newer models I have seen in photos.

I am talking about early U Late U with Continental engine 1929 to 1932 .It is a late Cont .Engine U because it HAS AC on top tank and not UNITED.Most I-U's did not have fenders .

Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?

doesn't it look like the top tank of the radiator has been changed, I looked at Brother Brad's 1930 U and Dave Maddux's 1929 U today and Dave's has the allis chalmers and the radiator sides, where Brad's doesn't

It is my opinion that the muffler set up is home made, because the owner was afraid of the original exhaust shooting out on top of the carburetor. I personally have seen carbon sparks shoot out onto the carb. Not all carbs are tight, and dry. Some may leak gas. Dave.
