I've got a 1951 English Built B with magneto, its starter motor is not working and the alternator appears to be from a mini cooper or something, and I haven't got a battery for it.
My plan is to just put it all in the bin and go with magneto + hand crank from here on out. Has anyone else done that before? I really like the bare bones aesthetic of having no bits sticking out the side I really like the look of the late 30's B with no extra features.
It's not a working tractor its just going to be used as a garden tractor/show piece after restoration do I don't mind the inconvenience of no starting system.

Good plan if you know how to clean and adjust the mag and carb. You get old and tired not so much fun cranking anymore. But back in time none had a battery and starter motor, so go for it.

Yep mags almost done and I'm just waiting on carb rebuilt kit to arrive.
I'm 26 so I'm sure I can suffer through a bit of cranking!

I would keep the starter in a box... you might change your mind someday.. You can run the starter with a battery and not have a charging system, if you go that route in the future. ........ with out the alternator, you will need the fan adjustable pulley to work to tighten the belt..

Ofcourse! I'm not actually putting those things in the bin just putting them aside. Luckily I do have that type of fan pulley! Thanks

be 100% SURE of how to hand crank the tractor !!!! if you forget ,even once, well..better KNOW where you put the starter.....

You might want to pull start it the first time, until you get it timed right. An out of time engine can kick and you could break your arm.
