Old gal told me to get her some unbromated flour. Now how the heck am I gonna remember sumpthing like that, let alone spell it. Well an old farm boy converted that to unbrome grass flour. I did find 2 - 5lb bags at Walmart. They'd only let me buy 1 bag. She made some more of then cinnamon/brown sugar buns. Guys they ain't non fat units! Got's to make a 150 mile round trip making delieveries tomorrow + get mower tires. I might take a couple with me, we got's a new coffee shop in town that I ain't tried yet, a big ol cup of that and 1 or 2 of them outta get me thru the day. Old gal might go with me. Long as she ain't with me listening to that political crap, I'll have some hair left when I gets home.

From Bobs Red Mill site.

What does "bromated" mean?

Bromated, by far the less common of the two terms, is a process in which potassium bromate (bromate) is added to flour to improve baked goods.

Why would bromate be added to flour? It is added to improve rise and elasticity of dough. In many countries around the world, bromate is a banned food additive. It is not banned in the United States. Why you ask? In theory, because bromate is an oxidizing agent, it should be fully consumed in the bread baking process and there should be no bromate in the finished good. However, if the conditions are off (think not baked long enough), some bromate will still be present in the baked good and that, in our opinion, is not good. You see, bromate has been linked to cancer in some lab studies and, while it is not a banned food additive, the FDA discourages its use by bakers

Tom,
 Sounds awesome!
Am considering baking some bread today too. But just a couple loaves of simple white bread. Nothing fancy. (pics from the last white bread)

Last home made bread I made was wheat. Just thought I had to have it. Was good but Very heavy and dense. Had to toast it a lot to get it crispy.
Regards,
 Chris

Can't beat home-made, even if it is a little dense... on the other hand "store bought" unsliced can be good too.

Chris, that looks good! I wouldn't mind it being a little dense. Heck, I'm a little dense myself! Wacko

Yep I’m a little dense and a little heavy but my wife still loves me. I doubt she wants me toasted. She hasn’t seen that in 35 years and she weren’t happy about it back then.£
That bread looks awesome. 👍👍👍

I baked a loaf of gluten free bread today.  I think I can fasten a handle on it and use it for a sledge hammer.   I`ll need my chain saw to cut it.

Yeah weiner, that stuff is the pits!!  My one SIL has to have that stuff, he's really bad with that celiac disease.  He gets really sick if you put a piece of regular bread in HIS toaster and he then has a piece.  THAT bad......

Chaskaduo, you can bet that bromated stuff is banned in California.....
