I just brought home a 2 Bottom rollover plow, looks to be a 54, but I see there is a WD and a CA 54 rollover manuals, what is the difference? 1. Size of Bottoms 2. Width of lift armsAlso, does anyone have a copy of the manuals?

In looking at Pop's Allis Chalmers Price Book there is a 52 series plow for the WD, D-17, & WD-45. There is also listed a series 52 plow for the CA and B. Basically the plow frame would be the same. I think the difference would be the hitch and lift unit. I cannot say with certainty but the CA and B had a different lift arrangement than the WD and D series.
Also, the 50 series spinner plows - the 54 plow - shows a listing for the D series and CA and WD 45. Bottoms are all the same only difference is the size of the bottom 12, 14, 16 inch and the various type of bottoms, steel, cast, slat, etc. Hope this is some help. Good Luck! Bill Long |

Two bottom would be a 52, I think, whether r.h., l.h., or spinning. For a 50 series the shanks would be at right angles to the frame.
My plow book doesn't show a 50 series, just 60 roll over and shows the same hitch parts for D14, D17, and WD-45, though on the pages for the automatic spinner it includes CA with D and WD-45. A 54 (four bottoms) would be a big load for a D-17 or a WD-45 and more than a CA could move while turning dirt. It might haul it from field to field but it would be too little to plow with it. A 54 is a 2 bottom roll over plow. There was no model 54 four bottom. AC did not make a 4 bottom mounted plow until the model 64 was introduced.

The CA 54 frame could be used with 12" or 14" bottoms and the WD 54 frame could be used with 14" or 16" bottoms. The stub beam (part that connects frame to the bottom) for the left hand bottom overlapped where it meets the stub beam for the right hand bottom on the CA frame. The CA plow also used a single double clamp that held both coulters for the right and left hand bottoms. The WD had a clamp for each coulter. Clear as mud, Huh ?

Im pretty sure it's a WD model 54, looking alittle closer - the lift arms for the plow slip on the rockshaft arms, not using the snapcoupler latches. I'll get some pictures when I get a chance.

What's the going price for a CA 54 plow in decent shape?
