Morning everyone,
Is a "B", "C", or "CA" large enough to maintain less than 10 acres?
Would consist of brush hogging about three acres a couple times a year and maintain
the 500' driveway. One with a sickle mower would really be handy along the road. Last tractor I used was Belarus FWA 65 hp and I spent all my time turning. Am I better off stepping up to WD or WD45 for the money? Thanks Jeff

Depends on how much time you want to spend in the seat . We cultivated 50 acres with a farmall cub one year and it was about half the size you mention.

I would look for a WD or 45.They might use a little more fuel but get more work done faster. A CA might be handy but not as cheap to buy as a WD.
My Dad farmed from 1951 to about 1967 with nothing but a CA with 60 tillable acres.

Usually you can find a WD for almost the same money as a B. The B is easier to haul, but the WD's hand clutch, weight, and easier to use hydraulics would make me grab the WD first almost every time. JImD

Jeff A CA will handle a 5' brush hog and pull a back blade just fine; since the B and C have the same engine and similar power, believe they would work also. Personally would not use a B or C for brush hogging without an overriding clutch on the pto; the hand clutch, better hydraulics and 4 speed tranny make the CA a better tractor than the B or C. A WD or WD45 would probably be a better value, have more power, and are more readily available than the CA.

I'd go for the CA. My father had one when I was a kid and it was a great tractor. Besides, do you really want to finish the mowing fast??!!

Pretty much. There were changes over time but the later B's had the same CE engine as the CA. The block is the same, early B's had a smaller bore. When the C came out the engines went to the CE which had the bigger bore.

Bryan Smiths website say 1943?? I thought they came out with the C in 1940.

for 10 acres i would cough up the extra cash and get a nice CA allis with a wide front and a 3 pt hitch they are one of the most affordable tractors to run when mowing and are nice and small for getting turned around and getting around things i have used both the 45 and the ca model allis tractors and my little CA is great and much easier to turn than the 45 unless you find one with power steering but that is just my 2 cents i know the CA allis are sot after by lots of collecters and hold there resale very well but i would never part with my CA i love that tractor and know what i have after redoing everything on it all thats left is the paint and i know once i do that i wont want to work with it anymore so for now it will stay my A1 work tractor

Wow that's alot of information so basically if I was to try one of the two on a baler the c would be a better choice but either way its probably going to be a headache their both going to operate same speed same motor but where does the extra hp come from with same ground speed and hp
