190xt tranny

   I am redoing a transmission in a series III 190 xt.  There are chips out of the 2 teeth on the pinion gear, so I want to replace it.  The number stamped on the end is 247773 and one the local salvage yard has is 245884.  If I change the ring and the pinion gear together would a different # matter?  Would they be same design from a series I or II to a series III?  Thanks in advance, mike.

	A series 3 ring and pinion gearset (only way they were sold by AC was a "set") is 253511. The 247774 would be for 180-185-190-190XT prior to 23001 sn (prior to series 3). If you were to use the prior to sn 23001 ring and pinion( 2-pinion differential), the ring gear ID will not fit on the four-pinion differential case, which all series 3's have. There are MANY 190 XT's prior to sn 23001 that have four pinion differentials in them, but that change was made in years after the tractor was built. Whatever a 245884 is, I don't know.

	The tractor I am working on is serial # 24880 or so. Someone had worked on it once before since the locking nut was marked in 2 places. Since the # that was on mine was 247774 does that mean that they replaced it with one out of a salvage tractor? Is my only option to find one with the # 253511 or can it be anyone that is a 4 pin differential? Thanks again, this was not supposed to be this big of a project.

	I'd say if it fits a 4-pinion differential and has the same tooth count on both gears, it would work.
