In the process of restoring a WD. I removed the generator and limiting switch(I believe this is what it's called--small rectangular unit screwed on top of generator)for painting several months ago.I can not remember now how it was hooked up.There are 2 terminals on the switch and 2 on the generator. Thanks

The BAT stud on the generator goes to the GEN terminal on your "switch." This switch is called a cutout. The heavier of the two wires in the wire bundle goes to the other terminal on the cutout. The lighter of the two wires goes to the other stud on the generator.

The field terminal on the generator is hooked to the resistor terminal on the light switch. The other stud on the generator is hooked to the cutout, which has 2 connections, the second terminal on the cutout hooks to the wire running to the ammeter. This is from my memory, but I am pretty sure that is how it went, I will try to confirm it later, but I bet someone may have a diagram and post it for you soon.
