I picked up a 1951 allis wd a few years ago and i noticed that the drawbar was hooked to a behive looking spring at the front of it. Does anyone know what that spring actually did. I would think maybe to elimiate high shock loads possibly. Thanks, Kevin

The spring was to releive the shock when plowing with a pin type mounted plow. This was before the snap coupler was invented.

I seem to remember somewhere that it was optional, and is a rare item.

I have one in the parts trailer and will not work on the WD45s so if someone is looking for one it's for sale.

I I took a picture of one at a local tractor show last year.
As I recall, someone on here posted that this was an option that could be had with the WD mounted plows and would therefore show up in the plow manual rather than the WD tractor manual. I have seen a few of these over the years. Pobably would work well in the rocky ground we have in my neck of the woods.

The spring was not heavy enough for 3 bottom plows.
