Cannot be done without changing torque housing. a front pump is your best option.

Question I would have is, can the pump be fitted and use the belt pully engagement engagement to run the pump when you want it to run?

No, and even if you could, the belt pulley sticks out a foot ?? and then the pump on top of that ?? so the pump would be 2 feet out from the torque housing. Front pump or if it's an old D-17 with governor type power steering, make a pump fir above the generator and belt drive it. Works on a D-15..........

There was an (aftermarket??) option for a pump that fit in the belt pulley hole and an oil tank that sat next to the rh fender. I had a D19 once that had the pump and a tank mounted ahead of it. Probably pretty hard to find one now...

OK, I'm not the most knowledgeable amoung those who have weighed in on this but isn't the problem that unless you have the Series IV drive train you don't have live hydraulics for such as a loader? Tractor stops, pump stops.

That's why you would need to replace the entire torque tube, not just adding the pump.

Had a belt pulley mounted hydraulic pump on a WD45 for years. Have a D17 with pump mounted on side with belt drive out front from crank pulley. MACK

You could remove the belt pulley and mount a hydraulic pump there. It's been done, BUT it won't be independent of the foot clutch. It would be "live" with the power director only.

You would have to change out the complete torque tube and use the clutch setup and flywheel as well...Rick

"Bump"???? what is so hard to understand here???? It is big and expensive job and quite frankly it would be much smarter to just buy a series 4 and have the whole thing ready to go to work.

Maybe it would be different if Allis was still in business and if they had a larger market share so that used Series 4 tractors were more plentiful. I bought a Series 3 before I knew what the difference was between a 3 and 4 and for a few reasons am married to it now including the "Dad's Tractor Situation". I also considered changing out the rear drive t
rain when I spotted a 170 assembly on ebay at a good price. If I was retired and had the time to devote to it I probably would have researched it more and if possible done it. For now I'm just happy that there is this website where I can look at Allis stuff and recall those full moon fall nights turning over the soil for next spring's planting.
