First off Merry Christmas all! Now to the Grench stuff. I have this Kaw V block ( FH601V-AS06) in a Toro Z. Yanked the motor to track down a nasty oil leak. So I have it hung on a hoist in the barn, cleaned up, to track the leak. Went out this am and a dark trail led me to the shaft (13107-7004). I call it the Gov shaft. It looks like it has a seal on it but not listed in my parts book. So I am going into the city to see if they can get that seal. If I can, is there a kinda short cut to work that seal out without taking the bottom of the engine off? If so and if I can get that seal, Maybe I will start believing in Santa again. ![]() So I know we got some small engine gurus here. Give me the good news first. Thanx

best way i have found to remove a seal in a blind hole is to drill a small 1/8 inch hole in the steel face ( maybe 2 holes 180 degrees out). then screw a sheet metal screw into the hole.. grab with a pair of vice grips and PULL.

Dang Dave, what an excellent video and he even gave the part number for the seal. Thanks for leading this ole horse to water.

Couldn't help but notice. Personally, me think that rooster was trying his best to keep those hens happy.

Maybe I have a different way of thinking, bur the first thing I would wonder is what caused the seal to fail. Is there excess compression going into the base? Is there a vent plugged that is supposed to prevent pressure from building up? Is the shaft where the seal sits damaged?
Replacing the seal is only a temporary fix, if you don't find, and repair, the cause of the seal failure.

hmm, great minds think alike ! I was wondering why the 'common' failure as well as I've never seen that on B&S engines(crankcase bolts loosen off though....) Be interesting to find out if the new seal FIXES the problem.

When I tell my family that saying, the reply is usually "Apparently, simple minds think alike, too".

speaking of crankcase pressure, there is an upgraded crankcase breather mod available that I am gonna put on while the motor is out. We will see. I will be surprised if it is totally fixed. We will see this spring.
