Oil Change??

We bought oil in the bulk. 1/4 to 1/2 the price of qts. Oil company furnished us the tanks, meters, hoses and reels, etc. They were ours at the end of 5 years. Be advised every oil company that puts up a sign at a quick lube has 2 different grades of oil. 1 barely meets oe requirements. 1 far exceeds oe requirements. We always used the better quality. We stocked Motor craft filters and several other brands that far exceeded oe requirements. Motorcraft went on all ferd vehicle.

The "add ons" are where they make up the difference. 15 minute oil change???? I don't want some oil change flunkee rushing an oil change on my vehicle. Local tire shop has been doing most of my oil changes for over 40 years, I bring in my oil and filter and they do the change and will rotate the tires, inspect the brakes, u-joints or whatever else I request. Took a couple of my newer vehicles to the local Ford dealer for the "works" oil change, tire rotation, multi-point inspection a few times until I caught them not rotating the tires which was supposed to be part of the package. When I brought it to the service manager's attention there was no offer to bring it back in or give me a refund. I wonder what else they didn't do.  I won't be getting any more oil changes there, nor will I buy another vehicle from them.

I change my own (Ferd Escape) cause like Brian, I am 'resourceful' and I like doing it myself while I still can... ... ... ...

      Take my 2018 GMC pickup to the dealer and for $49.00 get the oil, filter, windshield washer fluid and tire rotation. Never have had them "add" anything other than one time an air filter and it was dirty. I have checked to make sure I got a new oil filter and joints lubed. Have done this for 3 trucks over about 10 years and never had any problems with them. Maybe  I am just lucky but seems easier than doing it myself and not much more money. Always used to change my own oil but crawling under things isn't as easy as it was 20 years ago. Getting up again is even more difficult.

I have been changing my own oil for 50 years.. At first it was the price... and the convenience.. Now i could easily afford to pay someone, but the time involved to get to the dealer, stand in line, then drive home.... I can change the oil in any of the cars or truck in 15- 20 minutes ......... and i use the waste oil for burn piles, and lube for the sickle mower.

The other thing that drives me up a wall, other than making the oil change a race, is they usually now suck the oil out through the dipstick at a lot of places. Lot faster than climbing under and taking out the plug, no chance of stripping or overtightening, and don't need a pit in the shop. BUT, you don't actually get the junk out of the bottom of the pan, I am very particular and dump a half can of Sea Foam down the oil fill with the plug out to flush the bottom of the pan and last bit of old oil. I also let it drip drain for a good 10-15 min. Would never let anyone else do an oil change for me, too important to not do it right.
