What are the values of a D-15 engine running or not? Thinking about outing one in my C someday.

Depends on if it is a series I or II, The series II engines are much more sought after.

When you double the hp, you run the risk of breaking things that were not designed for that amount of power! Just a reminder.

Series II engines cost much more to rebuild as well since they were not used in many applications.

A good running 160 cu.in. engine with satisfactory oil pressure , compression, etc would/ should/could be worth $1200 to $1500. It would cost double the hi value I gave to overhaul a 160 with a little machine work. And that if you have mostly usable components.
The block , head, crank, camshaft, must be sound. Machine work, gaskets, cam bearings, sleeves, pistons and pins, rings, rod and main bearings, valves and springs, seats ground or replaced, Assembly required, and don't forget the carb and manifold, ignition system. If the cam needs ground , don't forget the valve lifters need resurfacing.... It would be easy to spend $4,000 on a 160 oh.

Any recommendations for trying to get more power out of my C that wont break much too often then, and maybe don't cost as much?

When I did my B motor 10 years ago, I went with the larger piston kit, knocked .080 off the head for a tick more "squeeze", (got that from Dick L) added an E.I., and the rest is stock. That engine barks and has plenty of power to do what I want it to do with a loader on it. Still sportin' the 6VPG wiring system to. That little booger runs good!

Just a note, but if you are planing to pull it, some clubs don't allow Electronic Ignitions.

I got right at 1500.00 in a complete rebuild of my 160. Turned crank, cleaned everything, head worked over, cam bearing pressed in, rebuilt starter&generator, water pump, ignition stuff, clutch disc, hoses and belt, and that was when the complete engine kit from Agco was just over 700.00 I'd hate to think what it is from them now. Is the kit available from anyone else other than Agco now, wasn't when I got mine. Sounds simple and it was on these engines. very straight forward and easy build, but to make sure it has another 40 years left in her I went the extra mile and took my time. No outdoor sirty build for this ol girl.
