I JUST PURCHASED A HD16DP SERIAL# 8029. THE TAG ON ENGINE READS 16000H. THE MAN I PURCHASED IT FROM SAYS IT HAD A TURBO AND THE EXHAUST MANAFOLD LOOKS LIKE ONE FOR A TURBO. NORMS BIBLE NO TURBO ON 16000H.DID THE TURBO COME OUT BEFORE THE 16B IN THE 1970S OR HAS SOMEONE BEEN DOING SOME ADAPTING?

Can you get a picture of the engine ID plate? It will give you the catalog number (which is the spec's that it was built to) the series number (16,000 17,000 21,000 or 25000) and the engine serial number. You'll find it on the lefthand side of the engine block.
It might be a 17000 series engine. It's a lot like the 16,000 but, only with a small turbo and not like the 21,000 which had a large turbo on it.

manifold was probably a swap. 16's did not get turbos until B series. 16000H has different rods and piston height than the older 16000. 16000 also has slightly smaller journals on the crank so nothing will interchange with 1600H and up except sleeves and block. also will have 4 valves per cylinder unlike 16000 has 3.
