Well, I followed the directions to set up the governor this weekend and I put the throttle exactly half way and bent the cross link so it was 1/16" from going in the hole in the arm. Then I went around to the other side and took off the looknut and the bumper screw to set the idle and as you can see from my picture it is 3/4" away from the stop screw. I could replace the screw with a longer one but that is oviously not the problem. the dozer starts right up and will idle perfect with the lever in the idle (foreword) position, but if you just breath on the lever it starts to race uncontrollably. I removed all the side panels and lubed and checked all the linkages and they run smooth. The only thing I have not done is open up the governor, which is the next step. I just wanted your guys opinions. I also sent a picture of the position of the governor rod when the throttle is fully opened so you can see how far foreword it is. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time, Tom

That adjustment screw is for the high idle (maximum) speed and could actually be as short as possible or even removed and your top speed will be around 2,200 rpm. It has NOTHING to do with whatever you're complaining about. In your initial post, you complained of low power and seemed to gain engine speed going downhill. Now, you are saying it "races uncontrollably". So, do you mean??? ..does it run away wild and over speeds???????????? ...or is it "surging" and won't settle down and run at a steady speed??? Overspeeding and wild hi RPM's are probably governor weights that have exploded, and no amount of adjustment will cure that.

Sorry for the confusion, it started out as no power under load and racing downhill but it has now turned into uncontrolled racing in any position but slammed foreword throttle lever - where it idles right on spec.

Racing ????? (over speeding) or surging????(continually hunting and not settling down)....i.e. the governor keeps continously opening and closing the carb throttle linkage.

Definitely overspeeding out of control, to the point where I'm afraid I'm going to throw a rod.

Mark the distributer and rotor position (and remove ignition key) and pull out the governor for weight inspection.
