OK... neighbour has a creek to draw water from and uses a 'sprinkler' style pump as she need 50-60PSI to get it back up the hill to water the gardens, about 300' of garden hose.
The pump does not like being 'dead ended', say to change hoses up top or replace hand nozzle with a oscillating fan unit.

My 'idea' is to put an RV style 'water pressure regulator' between the out and in of the pump. Out of course goes up the hill as well .I have something similar for a PTO style pump for the D-14( I 've never used it...)
So I buy the RV unit(45PSI), blow both ways and air goes through both ways.....
hmmmm....

So now I've come to the 'well of knowledge'. Can anyone shed light on what we( me) really need. No easy way to turn power on/off so I thought 'bypass'. When the hose is closed up top, the water would 'recirculate' going 'out' to 'in' until hose waters the garden....

Thanks for any info !

sounds like a plan.. TEE into the discharge...a RELIEF VALVE that opens and dumps back to the creek or suction side... you dont want to REGULATE the pressure, you want to DUMP the water when pressure reaches 50 psi...

something like this at WAL MART... dont know what your pump PSI is capable of ??

What if you just made it simple and put a t or y in the line with a couple valves and open one to just dump out on the grass somewhere while your switching so you don't deadhead the pump. Hook the dump line to a sprinkler or something to get a little benefit.

Hay Steve , yeah that's what I want ! AmazonCanada has it... $45.00 !!!!
oh well, I'll keep looking NOW that I know what to look for !
THANKS.

Dan.. sounds like we could try that but something 'automatic' would be better....as pump gets 'rehosed' here, there, several times.Think 6 or 7 hoses(50=100')  all over the place.....'can of worms' ??
THANKS

Walmart ONLINE has some good values - suppliers are separate from Walmart but sold through their page . Bought 4 shocks for my GMC and were cheaper and better brand than other places or local parts stores - picked up at local Walmart store and no shipping costs .
Have bought a few other things through their site also .
No pump likes to deadhead as water in pump will heat up from friction and create a real problem before long , so either pressure switch or bypass valve needed .

Jay, when you say pressure regulator is it the type with an electronic switch?  If so, it will flow either way it just switches off power to the pump when it sees >45psi like an oil pressure switch for a dummy light.

Would be a good solution depending on current handling & what kind of pressure you see in the hose when it's being used (if back pressure on the hose was over/close to 45psi when "open" at the top you'd have erratic supply I think).

No the RV thing magically reduce pressure to 45PSI. Not what I need.
Have ordered a PRV that'll recirculate the water from 'out' to 'in' when the nozzle  is shut off.

Wished I'd kept  one of the spare well pump/pressure tank setups I HAD. That would have easily done the job as I need 55PSI. OH well... it's a 'project'.

recirculate out to in you say. For how long is the nozzle going to be shut off GUARANTEED? You’d be surprised how quickly it’ll turn that recirculating flow to steam and not do you any good. You’d be safer to dump it. You do you though.

Pretty sure spring fed creek water (55*F) won't turn to steam in 2-3 minutes.
If it does we've got a GREAT new green energy source !!

How do you figure that? Does your pump run on magic or is it electric or gas that puts energy into the water by beating the crap out of it with an impeller?

I figured you would respond in this way, that’s why I said you do you.

So, what size of powered pump (either gph/hp/watts is fine) will take 55 degree water, recirculated & battered to absolute death by the least efficient impeller, to boiling point in under 5 minutes? Asking for a friend Wink

the problme is the RECIRC will not be a quart of water... Might be a cup full , 8 oz ????   Might take several minutes, but yes, the temp will go up.. Not a big concern, but will eventually happen... Another problem is the BEATING will aerate the water ( cavitation) and can eventually damage the impeller or the recirc valve..........  Dumping to WASTE is a much better idea.
