I found this interesting article in an old Prairie Farmer magazine, dated January 7, 1967. Anyone on here, who may have worked at Allis-Chalmers back in the day, remember seeing or being involved in this demonstration? ![]() Here is a closeup of the AC cab ![]() |

I remember a dealer in Paxton Ill, Allen Wolf was his name, had an 190XT with a cab like that. I was just a kid and had never seen a cab like that.

I remember going to that dealer with my dad, when I was about 5. I always remember looking in the shop, at all the D21s they were working on. We went to Sauder-Ripple the same day to look at one there, it was across the road in a quanset hut style shed. IG Edited by ILGLEANER - 21 Jan 2016 at 7:27pm |

You are both correct! Allen Wolf was the dealer at that time, but the name of the dealership was Muller Implement Co. I sat in that tractor too!! We didn't even have a car or house with air conditioning at that time. I posted a while ago with a picture of a thermometer from that same dealership. My dad worked there when he was in high school (back in the early 50's. |

I think the tinted windows would really help with summertime cab temps on the 7000 series tractors. Have thought several times about trying it, seems like the low sun can still burn your neck even when in the cab.

I was a Dist Mgr in MO at that time and we moved it around from dealer to dealer for open houses, etc. Really drew a crowd.

Was called the cab of the future, I beleive. Plow peddler mentioned it in one of his articles. Said Allis put it together spur of the moment for some show and it was such a big hit that they made more of em to take out on tour, so to speak. Said that when the novelty of it wore off, allis was still at a cabs as usual pace, bit other tractor manufacturers were inspired by it, and thought they had better up grade their factory cabs in a hurry, or allis was going to leave them in the dust. So then allis, the company that inspired the modern cabs, was actually way behind the rest. Darrel

I think they had one at the Illinois state fair in 1968, (I was 10) they had a platform around it and you could walk up and look in. Seems like there was a line and you had to wait to see it.

I would like to know if anybody else ever saw the D21 "show" tractor back in about 1966-67. A neighbor took me to this Ag show in Atkinson,IL once. They had a D21 in a tent that had wall to wall floor to ceiling carpet. Had color TV and a B&W closed circuit TV with a camera pointing behind so you could see the plow or whatever. I can't remember what all else it had but it was pretty neat for a kid that had pretty much only ran a 630 JD or a 770 Oliver.

I can faintly recall seeing the D21 cab tractor on display at the AgriRama farm show in 1966 at Jefferson, Iowa. Quite impressive for its time.

I don't believe they made a factory cab for those tractors. You could get an after-market cab I believe from either Excel or Full-Vision. Can't remember for sure. |

Brian:
Stolper Mfg. Co made this cab for allis-chalmers. They made them for only the 190 tractors as far as I know. We ordered a number of these cabs and we could pick them up at the factory in Milwaukee, or they could be shipped to the dealers . Rich:

Stolper also made some for 210/220 tractors, would guess before the LaPorte cab came out in 72.

dad and I saw that tractor in late 1968 in Hummeston Iowa. I know mom and him sat around the kitchen table for hours discussing the purchase and talking about how that purchase would take away from their savings plan. Dad went back a couple of days later and AC would not let them sell it to him.

I know a guy down here that his uncle had a dealership and they had a D21 with the camera system. He said seeing that camera is what made him decide, "If this is the future of Agriculture, I want to be a part of it!" He farms part time and is also an agricultural engineer.

Looking for inside picture of a Stolper Cab.
Plan on redoing my 190 cab and find little info on it. The sales flyer says it was cork lined? |

No, this was the 190 sales flyer where it listed the cab options and mentions that the interior was padded and cork lined for noise reduction

I saw a cab like that too when I was younger, but it was on an Farmall/IH, 700-800 series. same upholtstry and other options. each tractor company prolly had them. I too remember that one of the BTO from that era bought that fancy IH tractor and saw it a few years later in the IH shop, it was trashed! such a shame to treat any tractor like that!
