Steven, were there many short axle G's in west coast orchards? What is overall length of axle? Years ago at LaGrange, IN GOO show I talked with a fellow from swOhio who had been an AC dealer; he and two other dealers went together and had G's modified to fit within 42" corn rows. Each pulled a single row six shovel walk behind cultivator (each replaced one horse or mule).

The Axles are still for sale, the pending buyer has backed out.
The Axles measure 10.5" flange-to-flange. They are very short compared to regular axles.
Here is a picture of them
The axles shipped are 180$

Herb, I don't know too much about the history of these axles. The customer I built a tractor for did not like the spacing of these axles so I swapped them for standard length axles, just cleaning out my shed. I was hoping to use these but no projects have come up.
