Thus, with new wires, plugs, rotor and cap, is this the magneto coil that is cutting out at high temp or the magneto condenser? Connections are tight. Maybe replace both??

Your right on track... Could be either, or both..
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Just ordered both from DJ's..... I am hoping this resolves the issue. I think I will change one at a time to see which is the culprit offender!!

Just for info, CAs with engine prior to CE149840 came with magnetos, those from CE149840 and on came with distributors.  My 1952 CA13092 has a distributor.  I have no idea whether that's original or not.  Would be interesting to know where CE149840 broke in but didn't see that on the AGCO site.

Interesting!! Let me pull the serial number form our "farmed in" CA. Definitely it is a magneto and I will bet you are right..... Our farmed in CA is an earlier number than the number of my grandfathers CA.

As well, as I type, I do remember that our family CA does have a distributor. This would make sense.

It has been a while since I have posted on our CA. Not much has happened this winter with our little friend in the shed for the winter.

However, this spring, I am planning to not only change out magneto coil and condenser, but will replace the clutch and pressure plate. When I was pulling a large load of sand with the blade in 1st gear there was a bit of slippage.

While there are a few different ones available, not sure which I should order..... an 8.5" or 9" and if rigid or spring loaded. Also not yet sure yet if I will need a pilot bearing or bushing.

Any other recommendations while we have it split in half?

Thanks, Dan

Great question. I had not thought about which one, engine or final drive. What would be the best way to determine which one is slipping?

Awesome!! That makes perfect sense. :-)

Will try and see which one it is.

Finally pulled the CA out to check which clutch was slipping.

Put the drain plug back in the carburetor bowl and opened the gas line. Gotta love it started right up and ran perfectly.

Once out of the shed, put it in 1st gear and with PTO/hydraulic pump engaged and let the engine clutch out with full brakes and when it slipped, the PTO was turning. Thus, it is the final drive hand clutch that is slipping and not the engine clutch. Appreciate "Sparky's" and "tadams" advice on how to determine which one was the issue. Would have been an "adventure" to change out the engine clutch when it was not the problem.

Many thanks!!!

Now to adjust the final drive clutch and see if that fixes the slipping. If that doesn't fix the issue, expect I will need to take apart the differential. I have looked for new "disk plates" for the final drive clutch and can not find any.

Maybe someone knows a source?

The other thing I need to do is to change out the magneto coil and capacitor. Hope this will fix the issue I had last summer of losing "spark" when the engine is hot. Not sure why but I would lose spark to cylinder #2. A new distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires did not fix the issue. I suspect this is due to a bad capacitor, but while I am in there will change the magneto coil as well.

Awesome Steve. Those are awesome links. Thank you!

Do you have an idea where I can get new clutch plate for this if needed. I looked on AGCO and all the typical parts store. Also a general Google search without luck.

If nothing, do I just need get the straight shaft from the farm and remove the clutch?

I think i would call Sandy Lake and talk to them to see if they can still get the clutch plates. They did have them 5 years ago. ... Your right, i dont see much advertised on GOOGLE search... Might also have someone REBUILD the plates with new linings. Not sure who still does that..

Solid shaft is always an option if you never use the clutch... or have no other options.. IT is possible the plates are not overly worn, but RUST and CRUD are your major problem..

If you take it apart when you put it back together use locktight on the bolt that hold the hand clutch together. I have ran into this poblem and I tore it apart and tightened the bolt and no it's slipping again. I didn't use any lcktight on the bolts.
