Just wondering if the nice folks with the books can tell me what year D-5099 was built, and where I would find an engine serial number on it? I have seen it is the same engine as the WD and same engine as the WD45. Wondering about the differences. Thank you.

Model "D" grader came out in 1949 and would have indeed had a WD tractor engine. By late 1953 the WD-45 was released and so the Model "D" grader got an engine upgrade of about 10 more HP. Then, in the Fall of 1957, when the D-17 tractor was released, I would have assumed the D grader sometime in 1958 probably got the new D-17 engine.
