Sounds like the coil assy is faulty. Most of them that small are totally self contained in the coil. A new coil will usually be close to the price of a new one...

Throw that pos away and buy a Stihl. Daughter has one. I have to go online just to get a spark plug. I have a Ryobi jointer/planer; can not find replacement blades anywhere. I don't plan to ever buy another Ryobi product.

if you are holding the plug away from the cylinder not allowing it to ground, it must be the mag does not have enough umph to throw the soark. if it will jump with a gap, but faint, it is probably the solid state trigger built into the mag. i have a ryobi trimmer and use the heck out of it. if i could afford a stihl from the beginning that is what i would have.

If you are suspicious of the compression, you might check for the heck of it.  Mine is 120.

Sometimes I hve seen where i thought the spark was too weak but when I put the plug in and yanked on the cord they fired right up.

The only problem I have had with mine is that it just won't quit.  I have a tiller, brush cutter  and edger attachment that I use on it also.
