Fred. The big difference is in the rear end and final drive gears. A 220 weighs about 1500 lbs more than a D-21 and has a 5" longer wheel base. 220 bull gears have a bearing on both sides and bigger axles.

220 is improved version of D21. 21's look cool and are "famous" but I'd not trade my 220 for one.

I've heard pretty much the same. 210-220 transmission case is bigger and stronger also designed for a ft wheel assist option unlike a D21.

transmission is identical except the filler and lube fitting on side. rear housing is where the difference is.

We have both as well, and I tell you what, I love the D21 styling, and I used to love that old girl for tillage, let the 7060 play with the 3pt impliments.  But we picked up a 220 a couple years  back, and I am in love again.  I am sure if you hooked drawbar to drawbar, the 220 would grunt and walk, the D21 even though similar weighted would just slide and wonder!!!  I will tell you this, they sound exactly the same, and that motor along with the hydro steering makes the sweetest sound in the world!!!!
