Were all the 200's from 1973 on "cost reduced tractors" like Norm's book says? What was different from the early models other than the crank driven oil pump? Which ones were better?  I'm going to look at one tomorrow with a ROPS. Were they available from the factory that way? What else should I look for? Seller says he has $4500 in receipts from having the transmission gone thru.

power-director lever went to a gate setup on later ones, earlier ones were like 190, push down lever. there is a serial # break. from that point they were all cost reduced.

We had way more problems with the power director in the tractors with the gate setup.  When the lever and the gate got worn you wouldnt get full travel on the valve spool so you had low pressure to the PD clutch and would burn it up.  The early ones with the 190 push down lever didnt bother.  HTH

This one had the gate setup and was really worn on the lever and the gates. Tractor ran good, but had a very loud transmission whine in the 3 lower gears. He said his mechanic said it was just due to wear....I said you tear apart a tractor, do $4500 in repairs to a transmission and it sounds like that?? Then he told me where it came from, so I knew it had tons of hours on it. 3pt arms were wore out and straps welded underneath the ends, had a front mount for a vegetable cultivator on it, very heavy....paint was all pitted underneath a fresh coat of paint...overspray everywhere.  Torn seat, fenders torched out to fit a rusty old ROPS on it...Needless to say I didn't even make an offer on it.

I have a booklet that shows a picture of a early 200 with only 1 oil filter and not 2.
