I need to know how far to space my rows so I can cultivate if I happen to find a nice little cultivator this year. What is the standard? Thanks!

What are you planting?  30" is popular for corn and 20" for beans around here.  Corn will depend on your combine head spacing.  You can adust most cultivators to suit the row width. HTH.

For Gardens space your rows at 36". All the old tractor two row cultivators will work at this spacing. For the "B" Allis-Chalmers one row -whatever your wheels are set at. Rows have to be the distance between the wheels.

If I am not mistaken, pretty much all older cultivators are adjustable row spacing, and only some of the B C CA era tractors didn't have adjustable front axles.

38" was the standard for years, 30" is the average now and 15" is new but only on great ground that can handle the high plant rate.

The narrowest we could get the C cultivator was 36" Row spacing. so thats what we planted the garden at. Most farms around here are running 20"  spacing for just about everything. You'll need to know what the cultivator you plant on using is capable of before you plant.

What are you using for a planter and what will you be using to cultivate? A 2 row cultivator won't work very well unless you have a 2 row planter. On the other hand, a 1 row cultivator on a B would be fine for a 2 row planter. Probably best to stat at 38 inches. Check row planting was done at 40 then 38. Now days 30 is popular and some 20 and even 15 inch rows. Most narrow row spacing isn't cultivated.

I will be buying a one row cultivator. Hopefully a G. It is for my garden. I grow everything. Last year I put everything except for corn, pumpkins and squash on 40 inch rows. I may try and squeeze them together a little bit more to make a little more room.

I plant with a 2 row allis planter set at 36 inch rows. That is what works for me and my B to culivate with. I suppose I could go to 32 inch and set the back tires of the B in to make it work, but I am happy with 36 and the way everything is set. Have a good day. Gary

I plant most items, Peas, beans corn, etc at 42" so I have clearance when the plants get bushy. I plant potatoes at 48" to allow space for them to spred out and not get damaged by the wheels. I keep wheels on the B spaced all the way in to the narrowest position. Bob
