Can anyone tell me if the ring gear pressed on the bull gear should be flush with the gear or are they "balanced for  trueness" initially? I noticed in replacing axle bearings that one side is flush while the other is offset in a few spots.
I'm still trying to track down a noise issue I posted about earlier. 40 allis B.
I appreciate your response.

Randy,
I just looked at the one I have open, it's flush.
I would think they should be flush as the sides of the "wheel" the ring gear is on is machined and should be true.
I would rotate the assembly and see if they is any wobble, I'll bet there is.

Randy,
I just got my other final drive opened up and it has the ring gear flush also.
If you have it all apart, could you set up the bull gear on it's shaft on some kind of V blocks and rotate it and see if the ring gear wobbles? I'm thinking it will.

Thanks Bill, I was thinking they should be flush. They have a precision inspection lab at the school where I work, it might be a good class project.
Depending on what i find out, I'll straighten it out & snug up the rivets & see what that does for the old gal.
Thanks again,
Randy

Randy,
I have several final drives appart trying to get enough good parts for my IB project.
I have several good straight bull gear assemblies, if you want one I will send it for the UPS cost only.
